Gosei Ultimate Megazord Comparison Review
After what seems like almost a year since new Megaforce toys began to show up, we finally have the last mecha from Goseiger make it's debut on toy shelves. By this point in the line most people are going to know if they prefer to import the Bandai Japan Goseiger versions or go with the Power Rangers version, but if you would like to see just how they differ then read on.
First up, Spaceship mode:
First up, Spaceship mode:
the Megaforce version is obviously smaller in the spaceship mode than the Goseiger version. After all, Gosei Ultimate filled the role of the final robo in Goseiger, so it needed to carry some serious size. It also retailed for over $100 dollars when released. The Megaforce version manages to get the same functionality off in terms of the spaceship configuration at $32.97, so no one should really be expecting them to be close in terms of size.
Robot Mode:
So another notable size difference, the Megaforce Version only comes up to the chest eyes of Master Head on the Goseiger version. Goseiger Ultimate features some nice silver paint accents on the shoulders and sides of the arms, and on the knees and sides of the leg. While the prototype for the Megaforce version originally showed it being all silver, there are no silver accents on it. The Gosei crest is tampographed onto the head of Goseiger's Ultimate, but not on the Megaforce version. There is a spot for it, but it's very, very small due to the overall smaller size. The Goseiger version features an ugly yellow plastic horn piece, while the Megaforce version keeps the same color gold plastic throughout, giving it a more uniform look. The Megaforce version lacks any paint on the two incredibly stupid swords.
So onto the biggest difference, the chest headers. As most of us know by now, the Header Zords cannot be removed on the Megaforce version, they are permanently molded in place. Each zord is one solid color piece, with only the eyes painted. On the Goseiger version the Dragon and Shark had painted teeth, and each Header had gold accents around the mouth, black paint lining around the eyes, and in the case of the Dragon, Snake and Tiger movable mouths. When folded into the chest the blue eyes of the Goseiger version had a nice black lining around the eyes and some copper paint accents on the Dragon, Snake, and Tiger. The Megaforce version uses a much baler powder blue for the eyes, where Goseiger used a metallic sky blue, which works nicely with the chrome. Which of course is the last difference, the Goseiger version headers are chrome for the face parts
(with the exception of what forms the nose on the Dragon Header), and Megaforce is all dull gold plastic throughout. Personally I think the Megaforce version looks better because it's more uniform, and would have nailed Goseiger's if they had used a better paint for the eyes.
It's also worth noting, that at least on mine, the nose piece never sits flush to the rest of the face, but the Megaforce version fits together seemlessly, and better achieves the look of having a giant face on the chest of your robo. Unfortunately both still have the crotch wheel.

Combination With Gosei Great
When combined with Gosei Great, it's not actually possible for the Megaforce version to recreate the show accurate formation because of the Gosei Great Megazord's increased wing clearance. I am perfectly fine with decision as the individual formations all look better than Goseiger's thanks to that increase clearance. Plus this combination was only used a handful of times as I recall, and given Megaforce's shortened schedule, we might see it once on Power Rangers.
However Goseiger does have an advantage when it comes to the bow, it can fit correctly in the shark's hand once connected, but it wasn't designed to fit on the Megaforce shark hand. When connected it's so loose it just can't be held straight.
Now as far as Gosei Great riding Gosei Ultimate, I don't believe that this is something the Goseiger version can do normally. I've heard it's possible, but there are no connections to support this on the Goseiger version. The Megaforce version does have dedicated connections for this so it's completely possible and intended to occur.
Those are all the differences I've noticed so far. I'm not covering the command center mode as that's not something Gosei Ultimate can do (it will be covered in the Gosei Ultimate standalone review however).
Final Thoughts
I'm not ending this review with the normal 'which version should you buy' comments since most everyone will have made up their minds on that decision by this point. Instead I'll just give my thoughts on which version is worth the money. Basically if you already have the Goseiger or Megaforce versions, just get whichever fits in with what you already have. I will say I was highly impressed by Megaforce's Gosei Ultimate since not only is almost all of the functionality from the Goseiger version present, it has the added command center mode (and it's a third of the price). Thanks for reading!
